Wilfred Lindner was born into a sock manufacturing family in Germany. In fact he is the third generation of sock manufacturers.
In 1924 his grandfather started a sock manufacturing business; Wilfred’s father worked in the business and in 1965 Wilfred continued the tradition by completing his apprenticeship in the art of sock manufacture.
In 1987 Wilfred and his wife, Gisela, arrived in Australia (along with two Sea Containers full of the family’s personal belongings and sock making machinery), and in 1989 they started L-G-SOCKS. In 1997 they moved the machinery and shop to Crookwell, NSW where they and two sons, Andrew and Matthew carry on the family tradition of sock making.
We’re very happy to introduce Alf Frew, the cook at Iffley Station, north of Julia Creek, who in turn is happy to promote Lindner Socks. Alf wears these socks (exclusively), and purchased his new sock supply when we visited Iffley in April ‘07. Alf appreciates the comfort and durability of Lindner Socks, and he likes the fact that “I’m able to walk around in the kitchen without boots. They’re warm in the Winter and cool in the Summer”.
Alf has always welcomed us on arrival at Iffley, often coming out to greet us, and extending generous hospitality, as well as providing great meals.
