Ringers Kit

Young people often ask Kent Saddlery:
“What equipment do I need to start my new job as a ringer at a cattle station?”

Listed here are the items included in the Ringer’s Kit, which is a great start:

  • 1 1/2″ Stockmans Belt with ring and Large Pouch
  • Large Bear Knife
  • Large Leather Saddle Bag
  • Quart Pot and Pouch
  • Water Bottle and Pouch to fit on back of saddle
  • Medium Vinyl Gear Bag (blue and red)
  • Set of 1 1/4″ Leather Dinner Hobbles
  • Analogue Watch and Pouch.

Please provide your jeans size so that your belt can be cut to length.

Kit available with Brass or Stainless Steel Buckles on all of the leather items in the kit.
Sometimes we might only have the items with one buckle option in stock, so there might be a wait if you select a particular buckle. If you dont mind receiving either buckle type (same type for all items in the kit), please select “Any Fitting” as your option.

As time goes on you will no doubt decide to expand your gear. Other recommended items are listed on the “Working as a Ringer” page.

temp-BenHartOnce Ben had made up his mind to give cattle station work a go, he logged onto the Kent Saddlery website and accessed the Working as a Ringer article. He purchased the recommended items and arrived at Flora Valley with appropriate work gear. He commented further that the Kent Saddlery website is “easy to access and provides useful, practical information.”

“Sink or Float”

At twenty-one years of age, Ben Hart, a livestock and property agent, had over forty clients on his books. He’d left school at fifteen, acquired his Livestock and Property Agents licence and had worked in and around Wagga Wagga N.S.W for five and a half years. As he launched into the competitive field of expertise he was told “You’ll either sink or float.” With a grin he says, “I floated.” At Flora Valley Station Ben remains convinced that it was a wise move to try something new. “I love it up here. I’d like to spend a few years Outback and maybe further down the track, I’ll start up my own business.”
