In December 2012, The Kent Saddlery Retail Store came into being and significantly, the opening coincided with the 25th Anniversary of the business.
When we purchased the property (on the New England Highway, just north of Stanthorpe S.E.Qld) we knew it had huge potential and that’s when we called on ALTITUDE950 to assist us in converting a former winery into a retail saddlery store. ALTITUDE950 is a full service design and construction business owned and operated by Nick and Fiona Sweet.
Nick and Fiona literally walked and talked with us from concept to completion; listening to our ideas and incorporating their skills and expertise with our plans and dreams. Nick is quietly and incredibly creative; Fiona expressive and emphatic.
For Nick, building is more than bricks and mortar— it’s a way to embody lifestyle, environment and emotion and the Stores’ impressive counter, crafted from reclaimed wharf timbers is testament to this holistic approach. From the outset, Fiona’s excitement was contagious. “We envisioned a store where visitors could experience the way the Australian identity is woven into Kent Saddlery’s identity,” she explained. A beautifully simple “horses back,” sculptured by Nick from a solid block of timber, exemplifies Fiona’s vision. It also serves a very practical purpose … its perfect for customers who want to sit in a Kent Saddle and try it for size and fit.
In July 2013 we were delighted and not at all surprised when Nick was awarded the Master Builders Downs and Western Rising Star Award. The award is presented to a builder who has been in business for seven years or less. Nick received this accolade for ALTITUDE950’s design and fit out of the Kent Saddlery retail store.
The store has a gallery feel, displaying photos and stories from Kent Saddlery’s outback trips, an Aussie slideshow photo presentation and an impressive range of Kent Saddlery’s handmade saddles and leather products. The shelves are stocked with a variety of top quality products, suitable as gift items and catering for a wide range of interests.
If the smell of leather combined with the aroma of coffee is appealing, the Kent Saddlery Store is the place to be. Children are welcome and a comfortable seating alcove is available for relaxation and a cup of tea or coffee. There’s opportunity to see, touch and feel Kent Saddlery’s authentic leather products as well as ALITITUDE950’s fittings and furnishings. Please come on in… a welcoming “G’day” is assured.
