2014 QCL Under 18 Winner, Trent Simcox

IMAGINE WINNING THIS COMPETITION!

Article contributed by Maggy Scott.

In 2014, 12 year old Trent Simcox did just that. His Dad, Brad Simcox, an avid reader of Queensland Country Life noticed the advertisement, which included an under 18 year old section. Would his son like to enter? You bet! Full of excited anticipation and forgetting school homework, young Trent visited neighbouring properties asking for used papers.

Makes sense. More entries, more advantage.

His parents property near Casino, NSW, runs beef cattle, including Poll Herefords. Horse work is necessary, providing opportunity to ride his light brown stock horse, “Little One”, and to be his Dad’s right-hand man. Brad confirms that he couldn’t do the mustering without his son.

Trent’s Mum, Trudy, received the call informing them that Trent was the winner. When she told her son, he was thrilled!

Following the win, the family travelled to Kent Saddlery at Stanthorpe to choose the new saddle, custom made to give “Little One” and Trent Five Star comfort and safety. An elated 12 year old returned home with a fantastic saddle, made by the skilled saddlers at Kent Saddlery.

A year later, Trent’s riding skills combined with good saddle fit have meant that he has not fallen out of his saddle. Trent reports that he’s 11 out of 10 happy. Sister Tegan and younger brother Travis are naturally envious. Travis can’t wait for Trent to outgrow the saddle – guess why?! With many country kids, horse riding skills begin early. Trent began at 6 years of age and is a keen, good rider. He urges all interested to enter the 2015 competition, open to all age groups. Keep Kent Saddlery busy! Dates run from 28/05/2015 to 06/07/2015. For more information about the competition click here.
