Stories of Australian Country People

Winston Gordon, Head Stockman at Roebuck Plains Station, Broome, WA, and Waylon Gordon, Stockman, were pleased and proud to find the photo of themselves and the stockcamp team from Koongie Park, near Halls Creek, WA, in Helen’s Coffee Table Book, “Stories of Australian Country People”.

John and Peita Scott work at Roebuck Plains Station’s Export Depot and were among the keen group of shoppers at the Station when the Kent Saddlery travelling shop stayed overnight. Long standing friends and loyal customers, they’d been looking forward to purchasing a copy of Helen’s book, “Stories of Australian Country People”. Pictured left to right- Peita, Helen and John.

Michael and Julie Percy, pictured with Helen, were happy to include their signatures on their story “Still Smiling” in a designated copy of “Stories of Australian Country People”. “Reluctantly willing” is a good description of Julie’s response…. to sharing their story in the first place… (and it’s a great story!) and then to having a photo taken with the written account.

Michael Dahl, Head Stockman at Blina Station, Derby, WA, returned to the Kent Saddlery travelling shop following the evening meal, to read the Dahl family story. He summed it up with a grin, “It’s long, but good!”

Don Harris, “More than a Mechanic” and Wendy Bailey, “More than a Nurse” visited the Kent Saddlery travelling shop at Meda Station, Derby, W.A. and Lyle and Helen lined up with them for a photo to honour them and their story in “Stories of Australian Country People”.

Dan McIntosh, founder of the popular Facebook page “Station Photo’s” and Helen Kent chatting about Dan’s story and photos in Helen’s “Stories of Australian County People”. Dan’s story is titled “It all started with one like” and refers to Dan’s book “Outback Stations” which features photos and captions from across Australia. Awesome! There are a lot of great photos in Helen’s book “Stories of Australian Country People”.

Great to visit Spring Creek Station, Duncan Road on the NT, WA border and meet up with the consistently enthusiastic Mike Shaw. It was a genuine happy-snap of Lyle, Helen and Mike (pictured left to right) looking at Mike’s story “The Old Fashioned Way” in ” Stories of Australian Country People”.

Kayla Struber, of Rosewood Station on the Duncan Road, WA, and author of “Stories of Australian Country People” Helen Kent shared a satisfying moment looking at Kayla’s story “The best way to grow up”. Kayla continues to work in the role of Head Stockman / Person at the Station which is managed by her parents Doug and Joanne Struber.

Peter Lane, who has “….done a bit of ringin…” was again working at Montejinni Station, Top Springs, NT, when Lyle and Helen visited at the end of May. He liked the story Helen wrote and we’re certain that readers will too.

The Top Springs Pub and camping Grounds NT, where the Buchanan and Buntine Highways cross paths, is a great meeting place for both travellers and people who live in the area. Lyle and Helen were happy to cross paths there with Sheilagh Savage “Boss Drover’s Daughter”.
