A conventional Snaffle joint has a nut cracker action, which means it will bear pressure on the horse’s bars and the tongue. The Barrel joint limits the nut cracker action and spreads the usual pressure over a larger area. When the rein is used this mouthpiece wraps across the tongue creating tongue pressure and taking pressure off the bars due to the lock up action.

Please note appearances may be deceiving; this bit joint is stronger than the Elliptical. Because the joint is smaller pressure is more concentrated on the tongue.

The Williams cheekpiece allows for multiple rein positions. When connected to the main ring the bit acts as a loose ring, and when connected to the bottom ring it promotes pole flexion by creating more positive poll pressure. The Williams cheekpiece helps to prevent drifting.

The Bombers Control Plate is set at 45° to follow the contour of the horses tongue. Consequently, a horse who uses his tongue as a means of pushing against the bit and therefore taking control, will draw back and tuck his chin in, coming back to a better point of control. This differs from a Dr Bristol which sits horizontally with the edge of the plate on the tongue.

The Fulmer cheekpiece, has the same effect as the traditional Eggbutt and prevents pinching on the sides of the mouth. The extended pins above and below the bit, prevent the bit being pulled through the mouth and have the effect of guiding the horses head which is great for schooling and training purposes.

The Loose Rings make the bit less fixed in the mouth, which encourages mouthing and acceptance of the bit, while retaining the turning advantages of the full cheek.

The Loose Ring allows for immediate release and relief for the tongue and bar pressure. The bit immediately resets to a neutral position in the horse’s mouth. The Loose Ring Tube cheekpieces lie flat against the horse’s face giving a more solid feel against the side of the face, while preventing pinching of the lips and the bit being pulled through the mouth. The mouthpiece is quite fixed in the mouth and concentrates pressure on the bars but the loose rings allow for a quick release.

The Bombers Snaffle is a popular bit due to the curved mouthpiece which distributes pressure more evenly over tongue and bars. With the offset centre link it reduces the nutcracker action and pressure points on the tongue.
